Maintenance Specialist I -Highway Department
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, is responsible for manual labor of routine difficulty in the fabrication, installation and maintenance of traffic control signs and devices. Works under supervision and direction of Highway Maintenance Specialist II. Performs related duties as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Fabricates traffic and road name signs, installs and maintains traffic control signs; provides assistance in maintaining inventory for sign shop supplies and installing work zone traffic controls; drives sign truck, may be called out for emergency repairs and required to work standby and overtime; ensures that a neat, safe working environment is maintained.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Sufficient reading skills to comprehend the Traffic Control Devices Manual; ability to utilize a graphic computer system in the manufacturing of traffic signs; to follow oral and written instructions; to do manual labor for extended periods of time; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and fellow employees.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent approved by Louisiana Department of Education.
License: Valid Louisiana Operator’s License
